GHOST 014, 2011 © jwl

Come by Aisle Nine's Artspace to view some of my new work. There will be a scattered sampling of 2 of the most recent bodies of work, GHOSTS & NUMBERS.

The work is based in photography & photographic technologies, but also employs other aspects of my background & training. The images include elements of printing, drafting, drawing, breathing sawdust & fumes as well as my wanderlust and extensive collections of discarded objects of which he found on his travels.

Chad Pelton | First Friday | January

Clearview 4PM | 2011 © cmp 2011

Come out to Aisle Nine Grocery in the Old City of Knoxville this Friday night. Chad Pelton's photographs will be on display @ Aisle Nine Grocery. As the first (of many) shows that I plan to curate in the store space, I am proud to exhibit work by one of my favorite photographers. Chad is a local Knoxville boy and does a great deal of art making and design work.

Since I closed my Milwaukee gallery in 2008, I have been trying to continue to exhibit artwork by artists that need to be seen. I had a bit of success with the shows that I put on in the WAR ROOM | MKE, as well as some other small deals, but now that I am responsible for the art for Aisle Nine, I think that there will be better exposure for the artists.

Any artists who wanna give it a go on the walls of Aisle Nine, feel free to send me a CV and jpeg samples of the work to be displayed.

RESCHEDULE: Freetimer Social Hour @ WAR ROOM

This is an announcement to reschedule this event...We have canceled the Feb 20 event and moved it to March 6. Apologies to any inconvenience this causes. Troy and I hope to see you in a couple of weeks

Something I am very interested in is building a collective community of artists and creative professionals. Whether it means hosting art exhibitions, being involved with groups like MIGA or opening up my space for gatherings like lectures and networking events.

Mark your calendars for one such event. The FreeTimers Social Hour will take place on Friday, March 6 @6PM.

The FreeTimers are an online community of photographers brought together by Troy Freund in order for photographers to teach and learn from each other about our craft and profession. So far it has taken place in chatrooms and post on the blog, but now we are gonna go live. Whether or not you are a FreeTimer member or just interested in photography feel free to stop by for some snacks and good folks.

I will also have some art on the walls from Memphis artist, Dwayne Butcher.

Party Pictures

I have been going to a lot of parties lately. Recently I have been wielding a camera at several social functions. In the spirit of sharing new and more playful photographs I thought I'd share some new work. These four images are essentially moments that I took to think about the rooms around me. I created these photographs very whimsically. I literally made the images the moment that I took notice of the color, composition or the shape of the world around me.

For most photographers this is a no brainer. That's how it works; you see it, then you shoot it. For me it is actually a bit harder to connect with this idea. I have a way of producng photographs that causes me to over think or discount what I see and I shoot very conservatively. Because of this habit and the thought of hundreds of lost photographs, I am making a special effort to take the picture anyway and think them through later in the day/week/year.

SO when you see me at a party with a camera, this may give you an idea about what I am doing. OR if you see me staring thoughtfully, these is the kind of thoughts I am having.
